Kolkata, Jan 11 (NationPress) On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, to discuss the recent attack on his convoy in Chandrakona, located in the West Midnapore district.
Adhikari's office has sent five videos documenting the assault on his convoy to the Union Home Ministry.
Earlier the same day, the Union Home Ministry had requested reports from the opposition leader's office concerning the attack, according to sources from the BJP leader's team.
The videos submitted to the Union Home Ministry depicted how the assault on the opposition leader's convoy was executed in a premeditated fashion, illustrating the local police's alleged inaction during the incident.
In a 15-minute conversation with the Union Home Minister, Adhikari detailed the events that unfolded at Chandrakona.
He announced that he intends to approach the Calcutta High Court regarding this matter and has scheduled a protest march at the attack site in Chandrakona on January 13.
Adhikari's convoy was ambushed in Chandrakona late Saturday evening while he was returning to Kolkata after attending a political event in Purulia district.
According to Adhikari, after his convoy passed through the four-point crossing in the Chandrakona Road Market area, several supporters of the Trinamool Congress abruptly blocked the road, waving their party flags.
He alleged that members of the ruling party assaulted his convoy with bamboo sticks and targeted his bulletproof vehicle. He noted that despite the prolonged attack, local police did not arrive to intervene.
After managing to flee the scene, Adhikari went directly to the Chandrakona Police outpost and sat on the floor there.
This incident is not the first such attack directed at the Leader of the Opposition, reportedly by Trinamool Congress activists.
Previously, in August 2025, Adhikari's convoy was targeted in Cooch Behar town in North Bengal when a group, allegedly linked to the Trinamool Congress, attempted to obstruct his vehicles.
