Kolkata, March 13 (NationPress) A motion initiated by the Trinamool Congress denouncing a recent remark made by the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was approved in the Assembly through a voice vote.
Earlier this week, Adhikari, who is currently suspended from the house for a month, made controversial remarks concerning the minority MLAs of the Trinamool Congress while addressing media representatives.
Following the circulation of the video footage of these comments, the Trinamool Congress launched a fierce critique against the leader of the opposition. On Thursday, the treasury bench introduced a resolution in the house condemning Adhikari’s statements.
The resolution stated that Adhikari's comments not only undermined the dignity associated with the role of the leader of the opposition but also contravened fundamental principles of the Indian Constitution.
Subsequently, the matter was approved on the floor of the House through a voice vote.
During discussions in the House, the issue concerning Trinamool Congress MLA from Bharatpur in Murshidabad district, Humayun Kabir, making similar unacceptable remarks about the leader of the opposition was also highlighted.
The chief whip of the Trinamool Congress, Nirmal Ghosh, informed the house that the video related to Kabir’s comments is under review, and decisions regarding it will follow thereafter.
Insiders from the Trinamool Congress revealed that the party's internal disciplinary committee has issued a show-cause notice to Kabir, inquiring why internal disciplinary action should not be enforced against him for his objectionable remarks.
Kabir has a history of causing embarrassment to his party leadership due to his indiscreet comments. Last year, he was reprimanded by the party for declaring that Hindus living in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district would be disposed of in the Bhagirathi River.
