Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 24 (NationPress) BJP officials criticized the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday following the discovery of a local BJP worker's body in West Bengal's Raidighi, labeling the event as 'disgraceful'.
BJP's West Bengal General Secretary Locket Chatterjee informed the media, "The Trinamool is now targeting BJP workers. There are bullets and knives involved. The whole nation becomes aware when elections occur in West Bengal. This is truly disgraceful. The people of Bengal will respond in the 2026 Assembly elections."
In a statement to IANS, BJP MLA Ashok Dinda remarked, "If the Trinamool aims to succeed, it seems the candidates must face dire consequences. Such incidents are prevalent everywhere."
Dinda further accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party of engaging in 'hooliganism'.
He stated, "The Trinamool Congress relies solely on hooliganism for its victories."
Dinda continued, "It is incredibly tragic that in West Bengal, a person working towards elections ends up losing their life before they can even participate. This situation is quite shameful."
He urged law enforcement and the Election Commission to take action against those responsible and to detain all associated Trinamool Congress members.
BJP candidate Papiya Adhikari for the Jadavpur Assembly seat shared her concerns as well.
She denounced the event, stating, "This is very unfortunate. Such atrocities are occurring; something must be done. The Trinamool is fostering these atrocities, and we cannot remain silent."
Highlighting BJP National President Nitin Nabin's visit to West Bengal on Tuesday, she added, "We will discuss everything with Nitin Nabin."
Adhikari also mentioned CM Mamata Banerjee's accusations against the Election Commission.
She stated, "She will make all sorts of nonsensical claims and lies."
In the meantime, the recovery of the body of the local BJP worker, identified as Kishor Majhi, in Raidighi of South 24 Parganas district, has led to significant unrest in the area on Tuesday.
Police have apprehended the deceased's wife and her alleged paramour in connection with the murder, following a complaint lodged by the victim's father.
The victim's sister-in-law told reporters, "Gobinda Haldar—our neighbor—was responsible for this act. Domestic issues arose due to his illicit relationship with her. We do not believe that politics is involved in this matter."
The 39-year-old BJP worker held the position of vice-president for the BJP unit at Booth No. 216.
On Monday night, local residents stumbled upon Kishor’s disfigured body near a pond adjacent to his residence. He was rushed to Raidighi Rural Hospital, but it was too late, and doctors confirmed his passing.
Upon being notified, police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
Initiating an investigation, the police initially detained three individuals for questioning.
Eventually, the police arrested the deceased BJP worker's wife, Anima Das, and her alleged lover, Gobinda Haldar.
