Kolkata, April 20 (NationPress) On Monday, police detained three individuals affiliated with the BJP in relation to a shooting incident in Gosaba, located in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district. A Trinamool Congress worker was shot while he was on his motorbike returning home.

The shooting occurred in the Bhupendrapur locality of the Shambhungar gram panchayat late Sunday night. Following the incident, local leadership from the Trinamool Congress filed a formal complaint against the BJP workers with the police.

The injured Trinamool worker has been identified as Dibyendu Gayen, a resident of the Shambhungar area. He was riding home alongside Palash Mandal, the Trinamool Congress booth president. Reports indicate that they were riding back after attending a party meeting when they were suddenly ambushed by four to five assailants who opened fire.

Gayen was struck in the right leg and collapsed on the road. He was immediately transported to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital and later moved to Chittaranjan Hospital in Kolkata for ongoing treatment.

Palash Mondal, the booth president, remarked that they had attended a meeting to prepare for a congregation on April 21 and were attacked while returning home. He claimed to have recognized one of the assailants as a BJP worker named Bhola Pramanik.

Trinamool officials argued that the BJP has no substantial presence in Gosaba, suggesting their workers are being unfairly targeted.

Conversely, the BJP contended that this incident stemmed from internal disputes within the Trinamool party, alleging that Trinamool is inflicting violence upon itself out of fear of losing in Gosaba.

A senior officer from the Baruipur Police District confirmed, “In response to the complaint, three individuals have been apprehended concerning the shooting incident from the previous night. They will appear in court on Monday afternoon. The injured individual has been transferred to a Kolkata hospital for treatment, and an investigation is ongoing.”

The police reported that the three detained persons are recognized as local BJP members.

Point of View

The BJP claims that internal strife within the Trinamool is to blame. As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial to approach the situation with a focus on factual reporting and transparency.
