The critically injured local Trinamool Congress leader has been identified as Krishnapada Mondal.
He was shot at while riding his motorcycle in the Nodakhali area.
According to eyewitnesses, three unidentified assailants, believed to be outsiders, shot at Mondal from close proximity and fled the scene.
