Kolkata, March 16 (NationPress) A man was injured in a shootout in front of Trinamool Congress legislator Sabitri Mitra's residence in English Bazar, located in West Bengal's Malda district.

The man, known as Biplab Ghosh, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

According to Ghosh, he emerged from his home after hearing local youths shouting at each other on Saturday night.

In an attempt to calm the situation, Ghosh intervened, but one of the involved youths, identified as Uttam Mondale, pulled out a gun and shot at him.

Witnesses reported that two shots were fired, resulting in Ghosh sustaining injuries to his left arm, as per police statements.

As of the latest updates, local law enforcement has apprehended four individuals in connection with this incident, although Mondale remains at large.

In response to this event, which occurred very close to the residence of the ruling party MLA, a police presence has been increased in the area to ensure her safety.

Malda has been in the news for negative reasons due to a series of shootouts.

Earlier this year, Dulal Sarkar, also known as Babla, a Trinamool Congress councillor from ward number 22 of English Bazar Municipality, was shot dead in broad daylight.

Furthermore, Narendra Nath Tiwari, the Trinamool Congress' Malda town President and district Hindi cell Chief, was identified as the mastermind behind Babla's murder and has since been arrested.

Additionally, another party leader, Hasan Sheikh, was also shot dead in a similar daylight incident in Kaliachak, also within Malda district.

In February, Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury, the chairman of English Bazar Municipality and former state cabinet member, lodged a police complaint after receiving an extortion call and a WhatsApp message allegedly from D-Company.
