Trinamool Congress Leader Arrested for Plotting to Kill TMC Councillor Over Personal Grudge: Municipality Chairman

Kolkata, Jan 8 (NationPress) The president of the Trinamool Congress in Malda town, Narendra Nath Tiwari, was apprehended on Wednesday for allegedly plotting the murder of the party’s councillor from Ward number 22 of English Bazar Municipality, Dulal Sarkar, known as Babla. Reports indicate that Tiwari had been determined for an extended period to eliminate Babla due to a personal feud.

This shocking claim was made by Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury, the chairman of the English Bazar Municipality, just hours after Tiwari's arrest in the Malda district of West Bengal.

“There has been a long-standing personal rivalry between Babla and Tiwari. Tiwari had previously issued threats to Babla about severe repercussions. I suspect that Tiwari may have hired contract killers to carry out Babla's assassination,” Choudhury asserted.

He further clarified that the conflict was of a personal nature and not politically motivated. Choudhury’s remarks indicate that Babla’s murder stemmed from internal discord within the Trinamool Congress in the Malda district rather than any political strife.

Interestingly, the leadership of the Trinamool Congress, which typically blames the BJP for any violence or murders targeting its members, has refrained from doing so this time.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had accused the district police of failing to prevent Sarkar’s murder. Shortly after news broke about Sarkar’s death on January 2, the Chief Minister attributed the incident to the negligence of the district police superintendent.

“Babla had previously received security protection, which was later revoked. There are evident lapses on the police's part. Babla had been with me from the start,” the Chief Minister stated on the day of the incident.

Sarkar was killed on January 2. Tiwari serves as the Malda town president of the Trinamool Congress and also heads the district's Hindi cell.

On Wednesday, Tiwari’s close associate in the party, Swapan Sharma, was also taken into custody concerning the case.

Sarkar was attacked on January 2 while standing at a crowded intersection. Three assailants on a motorcycle, wearing helmets, approached him, and one opened fire. The first two shots missed, but the third struck Sarkar in the head. He was quickly transported to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
