Trinamool Congress to Dismiss Leader Linked to Councillor's Murder in Bengal

Kolkata, Jan 9 (NationPress) The leadership of Trinamool Congress has opted to expel party member Narendra Nath Tiwari, who has been arrested on allegations of conspiring in the murder of Dulal Sarkar, known as Babla, the party councillor for Ward number 22 in the English Bazar Municipality, situated in Malda district, West Bengal.

The formal declaration regarding this decision is anticipated to be made later today during a press conference at the Trinamool Congress’ Malda district headquarters, led by the party’s district president, Abdul Rahim Bakshi.

Tiwari serves as both the Malda town president of the Trinamool Congress and the district president of the Hindi cell of the ruling party in Malda.

Currently in judicial custody, Tiwari stands as one of the seven individuals implicated in the case. The shocking murder of Sarkar has exposed the deep-rooted factional conflicts within the Trinamool Congress in the Malda district.

Sarkar was killed on January 2. Following the emergence of the news regarding his murder, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held the district police accountable for their inability to prevent the incident, attributing the tragedy to the negligence of the district police superintendent.

“Babla previously received a security detail, which was later removed. This indicates clear failings on the part of the police. Babla was with me from the onset,” the Chief Minister remarked on the day of the murder.

On Wednesday, the chairman of the English Bazar Municipality, Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury, asserted that Tiwari had long harbored intentions to murder Sarkar.

“There existed a personal feud between Babla and Tiwari for an extended period. Tiwari had previously threatened Babla with severe repercussions. I suspect that, most likely, contract killers were engaged by Tiwari to eliminate Babla,” Chowdhury alleged on Wednesday.

Sarkar was assaulted on the morning of January 2 while positioned at a busy intersection. Three assailants, wearing helmets and arriving on a motorcycle, attacked him, with one of them firing shots. The initial two bullets missed their target, but the third hit Sarkar in the head. He was swiftly transported to the Malda Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
