Is the Trinamool Congress Targeting BJP Workers in Bengal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 4 (NationPress) The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of assaulting its members in the Keshpur block of West Bengal's West Midnapore district. Reports indicate that eight BJP workers were injured during the alleged incident. The injured individuals were taken to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The Trinamool Congress, however, has rejected these claims.
According to sources, the BJP organized an internal meeting on Tuesday evening in the Ramakata area of Keshpur block's Ward No. 7. Following the meeting, as BJP members were returning home, they reportedly faced an attack involving bamboo sticks and other weapons.
The BJP has also reported that several motorcycles were damaged during the incident. The injured workers sustained various injuries and were subsequently transported to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital.
In response to the assault on their party members, the BJP staged a protest in front of the District Superintendent of Police's office on Tuesday night.
Upon learning of the situation, the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, reached out via video call to Tanmoy Das, the president of the BJP's Ghatal organizational district. He sought a detailed account of the incident and inquired about the injured workers' conditions, urging them to continue their protests.
Consequently, BJP workers resumed their protests in Keshpur on Wednesday morning. Suvendu Adhikari also announced plans for a protest in Ramakata and Anandpur in the coming days.
On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress dismissed the BJP's accusations. Keshpur Trinamool Congress leader Mohammad Rafiq stated, "To my knowledge, they were engaged in a picnic in the jungle. They ended up fighting among themselves after consuming alcohol and were also harassing women on the road. No TMC members were involved in this incident; it appears to be an internal conflict within the BJP."
