Kolkata, Aug 3 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress brought attention to yet another tragic incident involving a migrant worker from West Bengal who lost his life in a BJP-governed state. In a recent social media update, the party claimed that a worker hailing from the Chanchal area of Malda district died under suspicious circumstances.
Alleging the presence of an anti-Bengal sentiment sweeping across the nation, the party characterized this event as part of a broader anti-Bengal agenda spearheaded by the BJP. “How far will this Bangla Birodhi agenda extend? A migrant worker from Hajratpur village in Malda’s Chanchal-I block had spent 16 years working in Gurugram. Like numerous Bengali-speaking workers, he faced escalating hostility and discrimination. Exhausted and fearful, he had booked a train ticket to return home. Tragically, his bloodied body was discovered at his workplace. While initial reports suggest he fell from a rooftop or staircase, his family suspects foul play,” the statement from the Trinamool Congress read.
The party emphasized that this incident is not a standalone occurrence, citing multiple instances of harassment and violence against migrant workers from West Bengal in regions governed by the BJP.
“This is not an isolated case. From Delhi to Mumbai, Bengali workers are experiencing harassment, detention, and now suspicious deaths in states ruled by @BJP4India,” the statement continued.
Moreover, the Trinamool Congress urged for a thorough investigation into this incident, asserting, “We demand a comprehensive inquiry into his death and immediate protective measures for Bengali workers nationwide. Enough is enough.”
In recent weeks, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has vocally condemned the harassment faced by Bengali migrant workers in BJP-ruled states.
On multiple occasions, Banerjee criticized the BJP for allegedly orchestrating attacks against Bengali-speaking individuals to instill fear among them ahead of the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. She has also pledged to combat these injustices by launching a second ‘Bhasha Andolan’ against the BJP.
In a related development, BJP Lok Sabha member from the Kanthi constituency in East Midnapore district of West Bengal, Soumendu Adhikari, filed a complaint with the Delhi Police against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last month, accusing her of spreading false and incendiary content regarding the alleged mistreatment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers in BJP-governed areas.
His complaint centered around a video shared by the Chief Minister on her official social media handle, wherein she accused the Delhi Police of harassing and torturing a Bengali-speaking migrant family.
