Kolkata, July 25 (NationPress) The ruling Trinamool Congress of West Bengal has escalated its criticism of the BJP following the tragic demise of a Bengali migrant worker in Maharashtra. Abu Bakkar Mondal, a 33-year-old from Baduria in North 24 Parganas, was reportedly murdered in a horrific manner.
According to law enforcement, Mondal's remains were dismembered, placed in a sack, and disposed of in a water body. His family filed a missing person's report, prompting officers from the Vashi police station to discover his body submerged in a pond.
In a vehement statement on X, the Trinamool condemned the BJP-led Maharashtra government, questioning, "How many more Bengalis must be butchered before the nation awakens? A worker from North 24 Parganas was slain, his dismembered body discarded near his home in Maharashtra. What was his only 'crime'? Being Bengali in a @BJP4India-ruled state."
The party accused the BJP of a systematic campaign against Bengalis, alleging they are being "profiled, harassed, deported, lynched" across the nation. They also threatened to organize a protest march to Delhi.
"This isn’t a coincidence; it’s a calculated, state-sponsored ethnic purge. You are targeting a language, a culture, and a community. Enough is enough! We will combat this brutality on the streets, in courts, and in Parliament. If Delhi remains unresponsive, we will march there ourselves. You ignited this fire, BJP. Now brace for the backlash!" read their statement.
Mondal was originally from Narayanpur village in Baduria. He had relocated to Maharashtra with his wife to work as a mason. He was reported missing on July 20, leading to the police investigation.
On Tuesday, his body was recovered from the pond, far from his residence. Following an autopsy, his remains were returned to his home in Baduria. Authorities are currently investigating the motives behind his brutal slaying and seeking those responsible.
His family is demanding severe punishment for the offenders. His brother-in-law, Shahanur Ghazi, stated that they seek the death penalty for the assailants. "The perpetrators must face justice," he insisted.
In response to the Trinamool's accusations, BJP’s West Bengal President and Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya remarked that police efforts to apprehend the culprits are ongoing. He also noted that genuine Indian citizens are sometimes mistaken for illegal immigrants, and urged the Mamata Banerjee government to prevent the entry of such individuals.
