"We categorically denounce the heinous oppression and discrimination faced by Bengali-speaking individuals in all states governed by the BJP. We stand united with the families of these oppressed and terrorized Bengali-speaking migrants, pledging to offer them every possible support. Human life is invaluable, and where tragedies occur, we vow to provide financial assistance," stated CM Banerjee.
The migrant worker, identified as Jewel Rana, was reportedly killed in the Sambalpur district of Odisha following a dispute over a 'bidi' on Wednesday.
In response to this act of violence, the West Bengal Police have registered a zero FIR at the Suti police station, with a dedicated police team dispatched to Odisha to conduct an investigation.
"Recently, migrant workers from the Jangipur region have suffered various forms of oppression in the BJP-ruled state of Odisha. We express our solidarity with the affected families, and financial aid will reach the family of the deceased," the Chief Minister remarked.
She further asserted, "We denounce those responsible for these acts in BJP-led states and commit to providing all necessary assistance to the victims. Speaking in the Bengali language should never be a crime."
Addressing the incident involving Jewel Rana, the Chief Minister reiterated, "In regard to the young man's death, the West Bengal Police have already registered a Zero FIR at the Sutia Police Station, and six arrests have been made. A police team from my state is currently in Odisha for the investigation."
