Kolkata, July 29 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised concerns on Tuesday regarding the inaction of various national commissions concerning the alleged mistreatment and harassment faced by Bengali-speaking individuals in states governed by the BJP. She stated, “These commissions spring into action and dispatch teams to West Bengal for minor issues, yet they remain silent when serious crimes occur, such as sexual assaults and even cases where women are burned alive in BJP-led regions like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Odisha. The members of these commissions never set foot in BJP-ruled areas. When Bengali speakers face harassment or killing in other states, or when their basic utilities like water and electricity are cut off, these commissions do not intervene. In such scenarios, they become mere omissions. The harassment of Bengalis is prevalent because Bengal is home to significant talent,” the Chief Minister remarked during an administrative meeting in Illambazar, Birbhum district.
Additionally, she urged migrant workers from West Bengal, currently residing in various states for employment, to return home, assuring them that her government would provide suitable job opportunities upon their return.
“If they wish to come back, we will support them with free rations and medical treatment. We will also facilitate the admission of their children in schools. There is no need for concern. Rather than facing humiliation in other states, they should return,” the Chief Minister emphasized.
Furthermore, she alleged that Bengali-speaking migrants are being targeted in BJP-ruled regions under direct orders from the Union Home Ministry. “I have heard that at least ten detention camps have been established in Gurugram, Haryana. In Assam, millions have been sent to detention camps. Currently, efforts are being made to impose NRC in West Bengal under the guise of a special intensive review by the Election Commission of India,” she asserted.
The Chief Minister also accused BJP leaders of siding with British rulers during the struggle for India’s independence, adding, “Those who sacrificed immensely for the country are now facing language terror initiated by these leaders.”
