Kolkata, Sep 10 (NationPress) West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted on Wednesday that the BJP and the Union government are attempting to exert indirect influence over the state's governance from New Delhi. However, she firmly stated that such tactics will not succeed.
She further criticized the BJP's much-touted slogan of "double-engine governments" in states governed by the BJP.
"Let me be clear, Bengal will not be manipulated in this manner. The governance of West Bengal will be conducted from within Bengal itself. Bengali-speaking migrant workers in BJP-led states face oppression and mistreatment. I am curious to know how much longer they will endure such hardships," Banerjee remarked during an administrative meeting in Jalpaiguri district of north Bengal.
She emphasized that there have been no reports of mistreatment of migrant workers from other states currently residing in West Bengal to make a living.
"We welcome them and do not subject them to oppression, unlike others who speak of double-engine governments," the Chief Minister stated, subtly targeting the BJP.
Additionally, she assured that the state government will facilitate the return of stranded tourists from West Bengal in Nepal, which is currently facing unrest due to Gen Z protests resulting in multiple fatalities and the collapse of the K.P. Sharma Oli administration.
"The state will take necessary actions to bring everyone back within a day or two. No one should act rashly and put themselves in danger. There is unrest in our neighboring country. I stayed up all night in my Siliguri office monitoring the situation. You can rest easy; we are here to look after you," she assured.
However, Banerjee chose not to comment on the ongoing situation in Nepal, stating that discussing external affairs is the Union government's responsibility.
