Dakshin Dinajpur (West Bengal), April 3 (NationPress) - Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar expressed his concerns regarding the West Bengal Police's Criminal Investigation Department's (CID) arrest of AIMIM leader Mofakkarul Islam. He claims Islam is allegedly the mastermind behind the harassment of judicial officers in Kaliachak, located in the Malda district. Majumdar suggested that Islam is linked to the Trinamool Congress and accused the ruling party of attempting to shield him.
Mofakkarul Islam was apprehended at Bagdogra airport in the Darjeeling district on Friday while allegedly trying to flee the state ahead of the upcoming elections.
With the polling scheduled for April 23 and 29, Majumdar cast doubt on the rapidity of Islam's arrest by the CID, questioning its genuineness. "I am skeptical about the CID's quick action in arresting him (Mofakkarul Islam). Is this a legitimate arrest or a tactic to protect him? Only a thorough investigation will provide clarity," he stated.
He displayed images of Mofakkarul Islam sharing a platform with Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister and leader of the Trinamool Congress, along with other alleged party members.
Majumdar further asserted, "Regardless of who else might be involved, the Trinamool Congress is undoubtedly part of this situation." He accused Chief Minister Banerjee of attempting to consolidate the votes of the Muslim community by reigniting old affiliations and blaming the BJP.
Regarding reports of Islam posting on Facebook while in CID custody, Majumdar remarked, "If someone can go live on Facebook while in CID custody, it supports my claim that the CID's actions are designed to allow Mofakkarul to remain undisturbed. If the NIA had arrested him, the treatment would have been much harsher."
Additionally, he noted that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting an investigation under the direction of the Chief Election Commissioner.
On the night of the judicial officers' harassment, a figure was seen inciting a crowd at Kaliachak, where judicial officers were held hostage for about seven hours. This individual was later identified as Mofakkarul Islam.
