Kolkata, July 7 (NationPress) The industrial town of Durgapur in the West Burdwan district of West Bengal is emerging as the most probable site for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally scheduled for July 21.
Prior to his visit to West Bengal, PM Modi is set to travel to Bihar for an election campaign, where assembly polls are on the horizon this year.
The BJP's state unit has begun collaborating with the Prime Minister’s Office to facilitate PM Modi's rally. A member of the BJP state committee stated that there are both logistical and political factors influencing the choice of Durgapur as the anticipated venue for the Prime Minister's address.
“His speech in Durgapur will touch upon two significant Lok Sabha constituencies in the West Burdwan district, namely Bardhaman-Durgapur and Asansol. Although we faced narrow defeats in 2024, our candidates were successful in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. These constituencies and their corresponding assembly areas are pivotal for us. Therefore, Durgapur stands out as the optimal venue,” he remarked.
He further emphasized that Durgapur offers logistical benefits due to its proximity to Andal Airport, ensuring a swift commute for the Prime Minister from the airport to the rally location and back.
Meanwhile, teachers who were unjustly terminated following a Supreme Court ruling in April this year, which annulled 25,753 school jobs in West Bengal, recently met with the newly elected BJP state president, Samik Bhattacharya, to present their concerns to the Prime Minister.
“We have committed to advocating for their interests,” the committee member assured.
According to him, the upcoming rally is expected to uplift party workers, who are gearing up for the West Bengal assembly elections next year under Bhattacharya’s leadership.
“At the same time, the Prime Minister's rally may also serve as a message to the ruling party ahead of their annual Martyrs’ Day event on July 21,” the committee member concluded.
