Kochi, May 20 (NationPress) In an appalling event, a woman is accused of throwing her three-year-old daughter into a river close to this area.

The woman, Sandhya, picked up her daughter, Kalyani, from the local Anganwadi around 3:30 p.m.

Upon returning alone, her mother Ally inquired about Kalyani's whereabouts.

Ally recounted, "Sandhya informed us that Kalyani had left."

Later, Sandhya claimed to others that Kalyani had disappeared from the bus.

The police promptly initiated a search for Kalyani and, while examining CCTV footage, identified Sandhya near the Chalakudy River.

During questioning, Sandhya admitted to throwing her child into the river on Monday evening.

Sandhya was subsequently taken into police custody, and the local residents recovered the body around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Family issues have been reported as the underlying cause of this tragic act, with Sandhya’s husband, Subhash, stating that she rarely heeded his advice, according to police.

"Sandhya only listened to her mother and sister. There are claims she was mentally unstable, but that is untrue. She was completely fine," Subhash insisted.

A neighbor, Ashokan, mentioned that Sandhya had previously attempted to poison Kalyani with ice cream, but her elder child thwarted the plan.

"This was reported to the police, and Sandhya underwent counseling," Ashokan stated.

Soumya, the teacher at the anganwadi Kalyani attended, expressed profound grief.

"For the last 18 months, we felt like family. The children bonded well and were joyful during their daytime hours with us. We are devastated that Kalyani, who was with us until yesterday, is no longer here," Soumya lamented.

Sandhya is currently in custody at the local police station, and the Ernakulam Rural Police are anticipated to formalize her arrest shortly.

Kalyani's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, after which it will be returned to Subhash.
