Bengaluru, March 15 (NationPress) Promising long jumper Mubassina Mohammed clinched the gold medal in the long jump event at the Fifth Indian Open Jumps Competition, hosted at the Anju Bobby George Foundation Campus in Bengaluru on Sunday.
With a remarkable jump of 6.38m, the 20-year-old athlete, representing the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation, not only secured the top position but also surpassed her previous personal best of 6.36m.
Mubassina showcased consistent performance throughout the day, recording jumps of 6.18m, 6.24m, 6.29m, 5.81m, 6.15m, and 6.38m.
Bhavani Yadav from the Railway team earned the silver with a jump of 6.27m, while Kusuma Ravada, also from the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation, took home the bronze with a distance of 6.08m.
On the previous day of the event, Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chithravel were in an intense competition for the gold medal in the men’s triple jump.
In a thrilling showdown, Aboobacker, representing the Air Force, displayed exceptional skill, achieving a winning jump of 16.83m on his third attempt. His initial jump measured 16.05m, and he improved to 16.57m on his second try, although he opted out of the last three jumps.
Chithravel secured the silver medal with a jump of 16.78m in this season's opening competition.
