Mumbai, May 2 (NationPress) Tollywood sensation Nagarjuna believes the key to a film's success lies in its connection to the native language. Speaking at the WAVES summit 2025, he highlighted why Allu Arjun's "Pushpa" series outperformed in Hindi compared to Telugu, noting that audiences in North India were eager for stars in grand cinematic narratives, similar to Yash's blockbuster "KGF".
According to Nagarjuna, "Both 'Pushpa' films garnered greater box office success in the North than in Telugu. We have witnessed similar trends with Telugu cinema, where larger-than-life heroes resonate more with audiences in states like Bihar, UP, and Punjab. They yearn for heroes like Pushpa Raj and Yash from 'KGF' or 'Baahubali'. For many Indians, daily life can be challenging, and films offer an escape; thus, they crave the extraordinary on screen," he elaborated.
The 'Bangarraju' star remarked, "This is the magic of larger-than-life narratives that align with the essence of Indian storytelling. These films remain true to their roots, contributing to their success. Rajamouli meticulously crafted 'Baahubali' as a Telugu film, taking pride in his heritage, and audiences globally embraced it! Authentic storytelling resonates with viewers."
Nagarjuna emphasized the unique storytelling DNA inherent in Indian cinema, which deserves respect.
"One may argue, 'A guy raises his fist and 20 people collapse, which seems implausible!' However, if you enjoy Marvel or DC movies, superheroes do similar feats, but they justify it with 'superpowers.' We don’t require special powers! The average viewer, including myself, seeks to see our heroes portrayed as larger than life. When I watch Prabhas, Allu Arjun, and others on screen, I can’t help but cheer and applaud," concluded the 'Brahmastra' actor.
Nagarjuna participated in the panel discussion titled 'Pan-Indian cinema: myth or momentum?' alongside fellow actors Anupam Kher, Khusbhu, and Karthi.
