Hyderabad, Oct 8 (NationPress) The Congress party has officially selected Naveen Yadav as its candidate for the upcoming by-election for the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat, set to occur on November 11. The announcement came on Wednesday as confirmed by K. C. Venugopal, the AICC general secretary, following the approval of his candidacy by Mallikarjun Kharge, the AICC president.
According to the schedule released by the Election Commission of India on Monday, the official notification for the by-election will be published on October 13, with the deadline for filing nominations set for October 21.
Nomination scrutiny is scheduled for October 22, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 24.
The vote counting will occur on November 14, and the overall electoral process is anticipated to conclude by November 16, 2025.
This vacancy arises from the passing of the former MLA Maganti Gopinath of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in June.
As per the latest electoral roll published last week, there are 399,000 voters in the constituency—207,382 males, 191,593 females, and 25 third-gender voters.
In the 2023 Assembly elections, the constituency had 385,287 voters, indicating a growth of 3.49 percent in the electorate.
Voting for the by-election will take place across 407 polling stations located in 139 areas within the constituency.
During the 2023 elections, Gopinath of BRS achieved a notable victory over the former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammed Azharuddin, winning by a margin of 16,337 votes.
In a competitive race, Gopinath garnered 80,549 votes, while Azharuddin received 64,212 votes.
The BJP’s L. Deepak Reddy finished third with 25,866 votes, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, had a candidate who placed fourth with merely 7,848 votes.
