Hyderabad, Oct 15 (NationPress) Maganti Sunitha, representing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), officially filed her nomination for the upcoming by-election on November 11 in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, located in Hyderabad.
She was joined by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and other prominent party leaders as she presented her nomination papers to Returning Officer P. Sairam at the Shaikpet MRO office.
Sunitha is the widow of Maganti Gopinath, whose passing necessitated this by-election. Gopinath had notably achieved a hat-trick of victories from Jubilee Hills in 2023 before his untimely death due to cardiac arrest on June 8.
In the previous elections, Gopinath triumphed over former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammed Azharuddin by a margin of 16,337 votes.
This time around, the Congress party has nominated Naveen Yadav as their candidate, while the BJP has once again put forward Lankala Deepak Reddy, who secured third place in the last election.
Wednesday marked the third day of nomination filings, with a total of 21 candidates having submitted their papers in the first two days.
According to the election schedule released by the Election Commission, candidates can continue to file nominations until October 21. The scrutiny of nominations will occur on October 22, and candidates may withdraw their nominations until October 24.
Polling is set for November 11, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 14.
Prior to her nomination filing, K. T. Rama Rao spoke with the media at Telangana Bhavan, emphasizing that this by-election transcends a simple contest between two parties or candidates.
He framed the election as a choice between 10 years of development and effective governance versus two years of disorder.
Rao highlighted that 1.67 crore women in the state are counting on Sunitha's success in Jubilee Hills, anticipating that her victory will compel the Congress government to honor its commitment of Rs 2,500 per month in financial assistance.
“Numerous farmers are also hopeful for her victory, which they believe is essential for Congress to fulfill its pledges. The youth who were misled with promises of two lakh jobs are also closely watching,” he stated.
KTR noted that the underprivileged in Hyderabad, whose homes were demolished, are also looking to the BRS for a win in this election to end the chaos.
Furthermore, he remarked that minorities, who have faced humiliation due to the denial of a Cabinet position, view this election as a chance to teach the Congress party a lesson.
BRS leaders asserted that the Backward Classes (BCs), who felt deceived regarding BC declarations and reservations, are also prepared to hold the Congress accountable.
