Hyderabad, Oct 15 (NationPress) A total of twelve additional candidates submitted their nominations on Wednesday for the upcoming by-election scheduled on November 11 for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency in Hyderabad.
According to Returning Officer P. Sairam, among the 12 candidates, there are nine independents. This brings the cumulative number of nominations filed over the last three days to 33.
Noteworthy nominations filed on Wednesday include Maganti Sunitha from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Praveen Kumar Arrolla representing the Praja Velugu Party, and Buddaiah Amboju from the Alliance of Democratic Reforms Party.
The by-election process commenced after the Returning Officer issued the notification on Monday.
Sunitha stands out as the first prominent candidate to file her nomination, being the spouse of Maganti Gopinath, whose demise in June triggered the need for this by-election.
Gopinath, who achieved a hat-trick of victories from Jubilee Hills in 2023, passed away due to cardiac arrest on June 8.
In a strategy to leverage the perceived sympathy from voters, the BRS has nominated Sunitha for the by-election.
Accompanied by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and other prominent party leaders, she submitted two sets of nomination papers to Returning Officer P. Sairam at the Shaikpet MRO office.
In the previous elections of 2023, Gopinath won against former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammed Azharuddin by 16,337 votes.
This time around, Congress has selected Naveen Yadav as its candidate, while the BJP has decided to nominate Lankala Deepak Reddy, who finished third in the last election.
Naveen Yadav is expected to file his nomination on Thursday.
The deadline for filing nominations is October 21. Nomination scrutiny is set for October 22, and candidates may withdraw their nominations until October 24.
Polling will occur on November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14.
As part of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative, election authorities have installed digital traffic display boards at key junctions in Panjagutta and Khairatabad, showcasing the upcoming poll date.
These vibrant displays act as constant reminders for citizens to fulfill their voting rights, engage actively, and bolster the essence of democracy through informed and responsible voting, remarked Hyderabad District Election Officer R. V. Karnan.
