Bhubaneswar, Dec 8 (NationPress) The former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Odisha Assembly, Naveen Patnaik, has criticized the state government for its inadequate expenditure of the budget allocated for the people of Odisha and the state's progress.
Addressing the media at the assembly, the president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) expressed his disappointment, stating: "It saddens me to report that there is a lack of expenditure by the State Government for the welfare and development of our people. This is indeed a distressing situation. We have repeatedly urged the government to ensure spending for the betterment of the citizens, yet they appear to be entirely dismissive of this matter."
He further claimed that every segment of society in the state is adversely affected by the government's policies.
"Everyone is facing hardships. This is not limited to a specific group; it impacts all. It feels as though they are merely making noise with empty vessels, and as we know, empty vessels create a loud sound, and they seem content with that," Patnaik added in his criticism.
Previously, the LoP took aim at the state administration during discussions on the appropriation bill introduced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also oversees the finance portfolio, during the assembly session on Monday.
Notably, CM Majhi unveiled a supplementary budget of Rs 17,440 crore for the 2025-26 financial year (FY-26) to support ongoing initiatives in food security, health, education, and urban infrastructure on November 28.
During the appropriation bill discussions, the opposition leader also condemned the state government for its failure to utilize the funds designated for various departments within the current financial year.
Recently, the state government disclosed in the assembly that only 39 percent of the total budget allocation has been utilized by the end of October.
