Srinagar, Oct 4 (NationPress) Tanvir Sadiq, the chief spokesperson and MLA of the ruling National Conference (NC), stated on Saturday that his party is well-positioned for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir and is optimistic about winning three out of the four available seats.
“The ultimate choice regarding whether the NC will contest three or all four seats will be determined by the party's leadership in the near future. NC is in a strong position to secure three seats in the Rajya Sabha elections. The decision on whether to nominate candidates for all four seats will be finalized after discussions among the leadership,” he informed reporters.
He further asserted that NC's internal evaluations show a distinct numerical edge in the current political environment.
“We have conducted thorough groundwork and are confident in our performance. The numbers are aligned in our favor,” he added.
Regarding collaboration with the Congress under the INDIA Bloc, the NC Chief Spokesperson mentioned that while demands from alliance partners are expected, the leadership will make decisions based on political realities and numerical strengths.
“Anyone can make demands, but our leadership will convene to decide. In the past, we have made sacrifices for our alliance partners, but this time, decisions will be taken with careful consideration of the numbers,” he remarked.
Tanvir Sadiq highlighted that the outcome of the fourth Rajya Sabha seat would be politically crucial, reflecting the level of cooperation among parties and testing the strength of alliances within the opposition bloc.
“The fourth seat will be significant as the voting will demonstrate how different parties position themselves. It will also indicate the direction of evolving political dynamics,” he noted.
Alluding to potential political maneuvering, Sadiq stated that the party remains vigilant against any attempts to induce shifts in loyalties during the elections.
“One cannot entirely dismiss the possibility of opportunistic maneuvers in such situations. However, we trust in the integrity of our legislators and the unity of our party,” he stated.
He reiterated that the NC leadership, under the guidance of Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, will make the final decision after a thorough assessment of the overall political landscape and alliance dynamics.
“The process will be entirely consultative and driven by the broader interests of Jammu and Kashmir,” he concluded.
