Meerut, May 16 (NationPress) The National Commission for Women (NCW) initiated a significant programme aimed at enhancing gender sensitivity and increasing awareness on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) among college students on Friday.
In her speech, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar stated: “Our nation has consistently championed women's empowerment. Today, our daughters are shattering ceilings by piloting fighter jets, undertaking combat roles in the armed forces, and excelling in Science, Technology, and Space. This is a strong indication that India is advancing towards its aspirations with full vigor.”
The Campus Calling initiative was launched in partnership with Yuvamanthan — the largest youth development platform in India — and Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut.
This initiative also tackled cyber crimes that affect students.
Rahatkar underscored the crucial role that youth play in cultivating a gender-sensitive society.
“Today, we see Indian youth at the helm of some of the world’s largest corporations. The global community recognizes the potential of Indian youth. We are currently experiencing a 25-year ‘Golden Period’ — the ‘Amrit Kaal’ — and I am optimistic that the vision of a developed India will be fulfilled through our youth,” she remarked.
She added, “As Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha aptly noted, youth should continuously experiment, as innovation is born from youthful hands.”
Also attending the event was Babita Chauhan, Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women, who reiterated the importance of equality and empowerment. Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal, Vice Chancellor of SVSU, highlighted the necessity for educational institutions to foster a culture of dignity and safety extending beyond academic pursuits.
The Campus Calling programme aims to reach over 1,000 universities and colleges nationwide, marking it as one of the most expansive youth-driven initiatives by the NCW.
