New Delhi, Nov 7 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Friday that the government has pinpointed 100 locations to launch Atal Canteens, aimed at providing nutritious meals for just Rs 5. The initiative is expected to be officially launched on December 25.

The Chief Minister elaborated that following the introduction of these 100 canteens on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the program will expand into additional neighborhoods.

Gupta emphasized that the Atal Thali Yojana is designed to ensure that every citizen in the capital has access to food. This initiative goes beyond mere food distribution; it is a committed effort to promote dignity and enhance social equality throughout Delhi.

The operation of these canteens will be managed by selected organizations, as stated by the Chief Minister.

This initiative will not only aid the economically disadvantaged but also reinforce the values of social equality and dignity.

CM Rekha Gupta mentioned that an inter-departmental committee has approved the recommendations concerning site selection, menu, distribution system, and management framework.

As for the menu, these affordable canteens will offer dal-chawal (lentils and rice), vegetables, and roti (bread).

Each canteen will serve 500 meals in the morning and another 500 in the evening, with the government providing subsidies to ensure food quality.

To maintain transparency, the entire food distribution will utilize a digital token system, eliminating the use of manual coupons.

All distribution centers will be outfitted with CCTV cameras for real-time monitoring via DUSIB’s digital platform.

Each kitchen will feature modern equipment, including LPG-based cooking systems, industrial RO water facilities, and cold storage capabilities.

To guarantee food quality, samples of meals and ingredients will be tested by accredited laboratories such as FSSAI and NABL.

Implementing agencies will be required to submit monthly reports detailing food distribution, employee health certificates, fire safety certificates, and valid FSSAI licenses.

The Chief Minister reiterated that this scheme is a significant step toward ensuring a dignified life for every economically disadvantaged and working citizen of Delhi.

Gupta envisions the Atal Canteens as the heart of Delhi, ensuring that no one has to go to bed hungry.

“Our government is firmly committed to providing affordable, clean, and nutritious food to everyone,” she concluded.
