Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, inaugurated 25 new Atal canteens in a ceremony held on Thursday, increasing the total number of canteens to 71. With these new additions, the daily meals served will reach 71,000 thalis, according to government officials.
Gupta criticized past administrations for delaying the Rs 5 meal initiative for several years.
“During the 11 years of the previous government (Aam Aadmi Party), canteens were bogged down in bureaucracy. However, in just one year under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, we have successfully opened 71 Atal Canteens. This demonstrates our commitment to progress,” she remarked.
In a social media post on platform X, CM Gupta stated, “Today, alongside Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, we inaugurated 25 new Atal Canteens across various parts of Delhi.”
“I also had the opportunity to enjoy a meal at the Atal Canteen in Geeta Colony, located in East Delhi,” she mentioned.
“These Atal Canteens are a tribute to every diligent worker. For those who contribute to Delhi, we provide access to hot and nutritious meals. Inspired by the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we aim to establish 100 Atal Canteens in our capital, ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry and that everyone receives nutritious food with dignity for just Rs 5,” Gupta added.
Other notable figures present included Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood, BJP MLA Anil Goyal, and various local dignitaries.
The inauguration of these Atal Canteens coincides with Gupta's recent announcement regarding significant development investments in Trans-Yamuna areas.
“The package includes the upgrading of 236 roads, reconstruction of drains, and solutions to the waterlogging issues. This initiative reflects our dedication to providing equal rights, improved facilities, and respect to the residents of Yamuna Paar, ensuring it plays a pivotal role in the evolution of a developed Delhi,” the Chief Minister expressed on social media.
