New Delhi, Nov 21 (NationPress) On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the foundation stone for an ‘Atal Canteen’ located in Sanjay Basti, Timarpur. This initiative precedes the grand opening of 100 similar facilities on December 25, aimed at providing citizens with affordable meals, according to official sources.

During her speech, the Chief Minister emphasized that the Delhi Government is firmly committed to ensuring that no resident goes to bed hungry.

In alignment with this mission, 100 Atal Canteens will be established across Delhi on December 25, commemorating the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“These canteens will serve freshly cooked, nutritious meals to those in need for only Rs 5,” she stated.

Each Atal Canteen will feature a clean serving area, safe drinking water, stainless steel furniture, a digital token system, real-time CCTV surveillance, effective waste management, and a fully hygienic environment, as mentioned in an official statement.

Meals will be provided daily for both lunch and dinner, with food quality being monitored by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Compliance with health certifications for staff and adherence to all safety and hygiene standards will be enforced, according to the statement.

The event in Timarpur was attended by Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari, Delhi Government’s Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood, local MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, and numerous residents and dignitaries.

The Chief Minister reiterated her government’s dedication to public service, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Garib Kalyan’.

She affirmed that public representatives and workers are devoted to serving the community rather than indulging in the privileges of power.

Highlighting the long-standing neglect of slum areas in the national Capital, the Chief Minister remarked that previous administrations had overlooked their fundamental needs. In contrast, her government has allocated Rs 700 crore for slum development for the first time.

She noted that improvements in roads, drains, toilets, parks, community health centers, and shared facilities in these regions are being expedited.

The Chief Minister clarified that the government’s goal is not to demolish slums but to ensure dignity and access to essential services for every family residing in these areas.

In accordance with the Central Government’s vision, the Delhi Government is striving to provide every impoverished family with a permanent house, toilet, kitchen, bathroom, and gas connection.

On this occasion, Ashish Sood stated that the foundation stone of the Atal Canteen embodies the principle of 'Antyodaya', which focuses on uplifting the last person in society, as advocated by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.

He affirmed that the aim is to ensure that developmental benefits reach the most marginalized sections of society.
