Chennai, March 24 (NationPress) In a significant move ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has officially allocated five Assembly seats to the Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar), under the leadership of G.K. Vasan.

This agreement was reached under the guidance of Tamil Nadu BJP in-charge Piyush Goyal, marking an end to a brief period of uncertainty surrounding seat-sharing.

According to the terms of the agreement, the Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar) will contest from the constituencies of Ottanchathiram, Erode West, Ranipet, Killiyoor, and Kumbakonam. Notably, the party will utilize the BJP's 'Lotus' symbol for its candidates, deviating from its traditional 'Cycle' symbol due to compliance issues with Election Commission regulations.

In announcing this decision, party president G.K. Vasan explained that the change was necessitated by challenges in obtaining approval for their own symbol.

He emphasized that the party would field candidates in all five constituencies under the lotus symbol, as it was not feasible to campaign under the cycle symbol in line with Election Commission guidelines, thus opting for the BJP symbol instead.

This seat-sharing arrangement comes after some initial disagreement between alliance partners. The Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar) had initially requested five seats, while the AIADMK had only offered three, resulting in a temporary standoff.

However, discussions concluded positively, allowing the party to secure all five seats it had requested.

The AIADMK-led NDA in Tamil Nadu comprises several parties, including the BJP, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar), Democratic Party of India, New Justice Revolutionary Bharat, Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi, and Tamil Nadu Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.

Progress in seat allocation within the alliance has been steady, with the BJP already receiving 27 seats and AMMK acquiring 18 constituencies.

As seat-sharing discussions near completion, the AIADMK alliance is poised to turn its attention to campaign strategies and candidate announcements, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
