Opposition lawmakers from the INDIA bloc descended on the Parliament complex in New Delhi on Wednesday, 22 July, dressed in black to condemn alleged police brutality and the government's handling of the NEET paper leak crisis. The demonstration came a day after several MPs, including senior leaders, were forcibly evicted by police from a protest site outside the Prime Minister's official residence.

Black-clad MPs Assemble at Parliament

Lawmakers from the Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) gathered outside the Parliament complex, waving banners and raising slogans against what they described as the government's 'insensitivity and indifference' towards students affected by the NEET paper leak. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav were among the prominent faces who wore black as a mark of protest.

What Happened on Tuesday

On Tuesday, 21 July, all three leaders were forcibly removed from the protest site outside the PM's residence. Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition, had urged more people to join the agitation and called for the resignation of the Education Minister over the NEET paper leaks. Protesters had gathered at Jantar Mantar and adjoining areas as part of the 'Chalo Sansad' march called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).

Opposition Calls It 'Undeclared Emergency'

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari termed the police action an 'undeclared emergency.' He said, 'The way the government shamelessly arrested the Leader of the Opposition yesterday, even causing him injuries, I can only say that an undeclared Emergency has been imposed in the country. The Constitution no longer exists, and the only option left is to fight this government peacefully.'

Congress MP K. Suresh said, 'We are dressed in black and demonstrating in front of the Makar Dwar over how the police acted with brutality on LoP and other MPs.'

Parliament Proceedings Paralysed

Parliamentary proceedings remained paralysed on Wednesday, primarily due to the deepening standoff between the Opposition and the government over the paper leak issue — one that critics argue has left lakhs of students in uncertainty about their academic futures. The INDIA bloc has shown no signs of relenting, with leaders vowing to continue their agitation until accountability is established.

As the political temperature rises, all eyes are on whether the government will respond to Opposition demands or allow the deadlock to extend further into the monsoon session.
