Bhopal, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, inaugurated a newly built flyover in Bhopal on Thursday, dedicating it to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. This flyover spans over 2.75 km, stretching from Gayatri Mandir to Ganesh Mandir, and has been constructed alongside the railway metro line at a cost of Rs 154 crore. The project, much anticipated by the city, commenced in December 2020.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Yadav remarked that the BJP government has transformed significant locations associated with Dr. Ambedkar into 'panch teerth', including his birthplace in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.
"The largest flyover in Bhopal will be called Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Bridge, and I am proud to announce this today," stated Chief Minister Yadav.
The Public Works Department (PWD) oversaw the project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the city's traffic management system.
In attendance at the inauguration was Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh. The newly built flyover on Maida Mill road in Bhopal measures 2,900 meters in length and 15 meters in width, linking Gayatri Mandir to DB Mall Square, Board Office Square, Pragati Square, and Ganesh Temple via Mansarovar Complex. It also connects Maida Mill Marg to major residential and commercial hubs such as Vidya Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, Saket Nagar, Danish Nagar, Ashima Mall, and AIIMS. Furthermore, it enables smoother travel for commuters heading to Obedullaganj, Narmadapuram, Betul, Khandwa, and Jabalpur.
This flyover is expected to greatly reduce traffic jams in areas like D.B. Mall, Board Office, Pragati Petrol Pump, and Mansarovar Square.
Preliminary studies suggest that approximately 60 percent of the traffic will utilize this flyover, while the remaining 40 percent will continue to use existing routes, leading to a more efficient traffic distribution.
A branch of the flyover extends from DB Mall crossing towards Bhopal Haat (Mantralaya Marg), providing substantial relief to employees in state offices at Vallabh Bhawan and Arera Hills by mitigating congestion during peak hours.
The improved traffic conditions will not only save citizens time but also reduce vehicle emissions, significantly enhancing the quality of life for Bhopal residents.
