Jaipur, June 10 (NationPress) The newly appointed Chairman of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) is Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, who previously served as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan. The announcement came through an official order signed by Governor Haribhau Bagde.

With this significant change, the position of DGP in Rajasthan is now unoccupied, and a successor will soon be appointed.

U.R. Sahoo, an IPS officer from the 1988 batch hailing from Odisha, is recognized for his integrity and reputable image. He assumed the role of DGP on February 11, 2024, and is now transitioning into a new administrative capacity.

The position of RPSC chairman has been vacant since August 1, 2024, after the conclusion of Sanjay Shrotriya’s term. Kailashchand Meena, a member of the commission, has been fulfilling the duties as acting chairman in the interim.

After a hiatus of 10 months, a full-time chairman has finally been appointed. According to regulations, the RPSC chairman can serve until they reach the age of 62.

Born on June 20, 1964, UR Sahoo is currently 61 years old and is expected to hold the position until June 2026.

Previously, Dr. Bhupendra Yadav retired from the chairmanship on December 1, 2021, leading to a succession of acting chairmen, including Dr. Shiv Singh Rathore (from December 2, 2021, to January 29, 2022) and Dr. Jaswant Singh Rathi (from February 1 to February 16, 2022).

Afterward, Sanjay Shrotriya was appointed chairman and served from February 16, 2022, until August 1, 2024.

With Sahoo's appointment, this marks the third successive instance of an IPS officer being appointed as a full-time RPSC chairman. His predecessors, Sanjay Shrotriya and Dr. Bhupendra Yadav, were also former IPS officers.

The RPSC is responsible for conducting major recruitment examinations in Rajasthan, including the RAS and other high-ranking positions. However, the commission has recently encountered controversies regarding exam paper leaks and irregularities in interviews, leading to several outstanding petitions in the High Court.

Point of View
