Jaipur, March 23 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) is set to designate chairpersons for all newly formed Gram Panchayats, while the selection of ward presidents for urban local bodies has already commenced. Commencing on April 1, 2026, the RPCC will initiate a comprehensive campaign titled "Sangathan Badhao-Loktantra Bachao" (Enhance the Organization-Safeguard Democracy).

This initiative will see the appointment of chairpersons at each ward and Gram Panchayat level, followed by the establishment of executive committees consisting of 21 members. This announcement was made by RPCC President Govind Singh Dotasra during a press briefing at the State Congress headquarters in Jaipur.

Dotasra claimed that the Rajasthan government, in anticipation of electoral defeat, is intentionally avoiding elections for urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions.

He noted that there have been repeated attempts to delay these elections under various pretenses. Furthermore, he asserted that the state government has postponed the formation of the OBC Representation Commission and has not provided it with the necessary resources. Now, citing the non-submission of the Commission’s report, the government is trying to delay elections despite court orders.

He questioned how the Commission could complete its survey and submit a report without adequate resources, suggesting that the government is reluctant to accept the report to postpone Panchayati Raj elections.

According to him, this represents a direct assault on democratic practices. Dotasra also criticized the state government for allegedly utilizing a flawed voter list for Panchayati Raj elections.

He indicated that while the Election Commission has finalized the Special Summary Revision (SSR) process, the government continues to claim it has not received the updated list.

He suggested that issuing a faulty voter list reflects a lack of confidence in democratic principles and accused the government of deceiving the public. To tackle these issues, the RPCC will roll out a 30-day statewide awareness initiative starting April 1.

The campaign will be executed at Gram Panchayat headquarters by local Congress units, at the ward and block levels by Block Congress Committees, and at district headquarters by District Congress Committees.

The goal of the campaign is to enhance awareness regarding democratic rights and strengthen organizational capabilities. During this campaign, Dotasra, along with Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully, will tour various districts throughout the state. Visits to Beawar and Balotra are planned for April 2 and 3.

Dotasra also expressed concerns regarding a shortage of cooking gas, attributing public difficulties to what he described as policy failures of both the Central government and the state’s “double-engine” government.

He noted that this shortage has impacted households, employment, and social activities, forcing hotels, restaurants, canteens, and student messes to shut down. Congress units statewide have staged protests regarding this issue, with a major demonstration planned at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur on March 27, 2026.

Point of View

The Rajasthan Congress's campaign reflects a broader struggle for democratic integrity in the face of perceived governmental inadequacies. The emphasis on grassroots organization underscores the importance of local governance in maintaining democratic values.
