New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) In a landmark ruling regarding the 2021 Jaggadal bomb blast incident, the Kolkata special court under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has handed down a sentence of 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to two perpetrators.
Arif Akhtar, also referred to as Chand, and Rahul Pasi have each received a 10-year sentence, alongside a fine of Rs 5,000, as stipulated under multiple legal provisions, notably Section 436 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 3 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act.
The NIA confirmed the sentencing in an official announcement, stating that the accused were found culpable for their roles in the bomb assault that took place on September 8, 2021, in the Jaggadal region of West Bengal.
As per the agency's report, the duo, along with a juvenile, executed a series of three bomb launches in rapid succession targeting the entrance near the residence-office of former MP Arjun Singh. This explosion was a deliberate attempt to instigate disorder in the area.
The NIA elaborated that Arif Akhtar and the juvenile were apprehended by local law enforcement shortly after the explosion. Meanwhile, Rahul Pasi was detained later, after the NIA assumed jurisdiction over the case on September 14, 2021. A chargesheet was subsequently filed against the accused in December 2021.
While Arif and Rahul have been convicted and sentenced by the NIA Special Court, the juvenile remains in the custody of their guardians in accordance with legal protocols.
