New Delhi, June 26 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive searches on Thursday at numerous locations across three states—Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh—as part of the investigation into the grenade attack on former Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia’s residence last year.
During the operations, the elite counter-terrorism unit confiscated various incriminating materials, such as mobile phones, digital devices, and crucial documents.
Approximately 18 sites were searched, including the homes of key suspects associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Kulbir Sidhu, the US-based gangster Manish @ Kaka Rana, and their affiliates in India and other nations.
According to the NIA, Kulbir Sidhu, originally from Yamunanagar in Haryana, is currently in Germany and serves as a significant associate of the designated terrorist and BKI leader, Wadhawa Singh Babbar, based in Pakistan. Sidhu is also accused of being involved in the murder of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab in April 2024.
The NIA's search locations spanned across various districts including Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Mansa in Punjab.
In Haryana, the NIA teams executed operations in Kurukshetra, Yamuna Nagar, Karnal, and Ambala districts. Significant searches were also conducted in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh.
It's noteworthy that the grenade attack on the BJP leader’s residence in Jalandhar was allegedly orchestrated by BKI operatives on April 7, 2024. Initial investigations by the police indicated a conspiracy devised by Pakistan’s ISI aiming to disrupt communal harmony in Punjab.
A suspect named Saidul Ameen, believed to be the main perpetrator behind the grenade attack, was apprehended by Punjab police a few days later, on April 12.
With little progress made in the case and given its sensitive nature, the investigation into the grenade attack on the former BJP legislator’s residence was transferred to the NIA this year.
