London, Nov 2 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, nine individuals are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries after a series of stabbings occurred on a train close to Cambridge in eastern England. Authorities reported that two suspects have been apprehended, with support from counterterrorism units for the ongoing investigation, according to local media.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as an "appalling incident."

The British Transport Police confirmed that counterterrorism officers are aiding the inquiry to uncover the full details and motivations behind this disturbing event, as reported by The Guardian.

BTP Chief Superintendent Chris Casey stated, "We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further." He emphasized that it would be premature to speculate on the reasons behind the incident.

According to Cambridgeshire Constabulary, armed officers responded to reports of the stabbings shortly after 7:39 p.m. local time at Huntingdon station. The train was halted, and two men were arrested on the scene.

The East of England ambulance service dispatched a "large-scale response" to the crisis, with a spokesperson confirming that multiple ambulances and specialized teams were present at the location, and several patients were transported to hospitals.

Police confirmed that the stabbings occurred aboard a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross at approximately 6:25 p.m., just after the LNER service departed from Peterborough station.

Prime Minister Starmer expressed his concerns over the incident, labeling it "deeply concerning" and thanked emergency services for their swift action.

UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed her sorrow regarding the stabbings in Huntingdon and extended her sympathies to those impacted by the event.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER), which operates east coast mainline services in the UK, confirmed that the incident took place on one of its trains and advised passengers against traveling due to "major disruption," as reported by The Guardian. National Rail indicated that Huntingdon station is currently closed, with all lines blocked. According to LNER, services in the area are expected to remain disrupted until Monday.

"We are experiencing significant disruption across the LNER route. Emergency services are managing an incident at Huntingdon station; all lines are obstructed. Our recommendation is 'Do Not Travel'. Please postpone your journey if possible."
