NLC India Limited Launches Commercial Operations of Its First Supercritical Power Plant

New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has declared the initiation of commercial operations for the inaugural unit of its supercritical 3 x 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant, which was developed through Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited, a collaboration with UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited.
“The first unit successfully completed its trial operations on December 7 and commenced commercial activities from December 12, 2024. This achievement signifies NLCIL's initial foray into supercritical power generation technology, a significant advancement in augmenting the company’s energy portfolio,” the company stated.
This success strengthens NLCIL's standing in the energy sector and showcases its capability to undertake extensive projects that bolster India's energy security and sustainable development objectives, according to the statement.
With the initiation of the first 660 MW unit at the greenfield Ghatampur Thermal Power Station, NLC India Limited and its affiliates have increased their total installed power generation capacity from 6,071 MW to 6,731 MW.
The Ghatampur power initiative is strategically designed to cater to the escalating power needs of the states of Uttar Pradesh and Assam. Its supercritical technology guarantees enhanced efficiency, lower fuel consumption, and reduced emissions compared to traditional plants. The project also boasts a sophisticated environmental management system that includes high-efficiency electrostatic precipitators and flue-gas desulfurization units. This project heralds a new chapter in the long-standing collaboration between NLC India Limited and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL).
Through Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), this strategic partnership utilizes the operational and project execution expertise of both organizations, along with UPRVUNL's comprehensive understanding of the regional power landscape, as noted in the statement.
