Will Aussies Be Dusted 3-2 in Ashes at Home? O’Keefe's Bold Prediction
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Nov 11 (NationPress) Former Australian spinner Steve O’Keefe has expressed confidence in England clinching the upcoming Ashes series in Australia, echoing former fast bowler Stuart Broad's assertion that this is the 'worst Aussie side since 2010'.
Despite England's struggles in Australia since their 2010/11 victory, O’Keefe feels the current squad possesses the necessary form to triumph in this away series, boldly predicting they will 'dust' the Australians 3-2.
“Mark my words, I’m calling it - England will take it 3-2. I believe the Australians will be dusted on their home soil,” O’Keefe stated during an interview on SEN Sportsday NSW.
He praised the English pace attack, mentioning Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, and Josh Tongue, asserting that they are well-prepared and equipped for the challenge.
“In previous years, England brought over players who never felt like a genuine threat. They were dominant when they defeated us on two occasions in the past. In 2010, they had the superior team,” he noted.
“This time, one could argue that the teams are evenly matched, but I believe England has the right combination and timing. It has been 15 years since 2010, and I think this is their moment to shine under (Brendon) McCullum,” he added.
O’Keefe also mentioned that England's aggressive batting lineup poses a significant challenge for the Australian bowling contingent, especially if the pitches allow for an aggressive approach from the start.
“With Joe Root at the peak of his career, alongside Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, and Zak Crawley, I expect flatter wickets that will enable them to attack the Australian bowlers, putting immense pressure on the Aussies, which may lead to their downfall,” he explained.
“The depth of their fast bowling options means there will be no respite, and they will challenge Australia at every turn,” O’Keefe concluded.
The inaugural Test between Australia and England is set to commence in Perth on November 21.
