Jammu, June 6 (NationPress) In a heartfelt welcome address to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah fervently urged the restoration of statehood for the region.
During his speech, CM Abdullah recalled, “Jenab-e-Wallah (exalted sir), when you inaugurated the Katra railway station at the conclusion of my first term as Chief Minister, Manoj Sinha ji held the position of Union Minister of State for Railways.”
“Today, he has been elevated to Lieutenant-Governor, while I have transitioned from the Chief Minister of a state to being part of a Union Territory. I trust that you will soon tackle this matter and declare statehood for J&K,” he emphasized.
He also commended the Prime Minister for fulfilling the long-awaited dream of a rail connection to the Valley.
“Since my 8th-grade days, I have been hearing about a rail link to the Valley, and it has finally materialized under your leadership, sir.”
“The introduction of train services will liberate us from the exorbitant airfare hikes imposed by airlines, which can escalate from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 whenever the Srinagar-Jammu highway is blocked.”
“My appreciation also extends to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who prioritized the rail link to the Valley as a national project and allocated the necessary funds,” asserted CM Omar.
Standing alongside PM Modi, CM Omar exhibited a friendly demeanor as the Prime Minister engaged him in discreet conversation.
He played a prominent role during various official events on Friday, including the inauguration of the Chenab Railway Bridge, the Anji cable-stayed railway bridge, and the flag-off ceremony for two Vande Bharat trains, one traveling from Katra to Srinagar and the other from Srinagar to Katra.
CM Omar was one of the dignitaries who welcomed the Prime Minister on stage before Modi addressed the public at the Katra stadium.
