New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his appreciation towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his commendation of Abdullah's recent visit to Gujarat. He emphasized the tremendous role of tourism in bolstering J&K's economy and fostering national unity.
In a post on X, CM Abdullah stated: “I firmly believe that travel expands our perspectives and enlightens the mind, @narendramodi ji. This is particularly vital for us in J&K, where tourism plays a pivotal role in our economy and has the potential to provide meaningful employment to millions. Therefore, my team and I are striving to encourage more of our fellow Indians to explore J&K, especially following the unfortunate events earlier this year.”
Omar Abdullah's remarks were in response to a prior message from PM Modi, who praised his exploration of the Sabarmati Riverfront and the Statue of Unity during a recent tourism event in Ahmedabad.
PM Modi had mentioned: “From Kashmir to Kevadia! It’s heartening to see Shri Omar Abdullah Ji enjoying his time at the Sabarmati Riverfront and visiting the Statue of Unity. His presence at SoU conveys an essential message of unity and will motivate our fellow Indians to travel to various regions of India.”
The Prime Minister’s message followed CM Abdullah’s own post detailing his morning run along the iconic Sabarmati Riverfront:
“While in #Ahmedabad for a tourism event, I seized the opportunity to enjoy my morning run at the renowned Sabarmati River Front promenade. It’s one of the finest locations for running, and it was delightful to share it with numerous other walkers and runners. I even had the chance to run past the remarkable Atal Foot Bridge.”
Omar Abdullah was in Gujarat for two days to promote Jammu and Kashmir as a premier tourist destination, particularly in light of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which severely impacted tourism in the area.
During his visit, Abdullah interacted with travel operators and stakeholders within the travel industry to restore confidence and entice domestic tourists back to the Union Territory. He also met with his Gujarat counterpart, Bhupendra Patel.
