Srinagar, June 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, reaffirmed on Saturday his administration's dedication to transforming the region into a top-tier golf destination in India.
The Chief Minister made these comments during a prize-giving event in Srinagar, where he honored the champions and runners-up of the day's golf competition.
Earlier, he participated in the tournament kickoff at the Royal Springs Golf Course, which welcomed notable golfers from all over the country, including former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.
In welcoming the golfers to Kashmir, the Chief Minister emphasized that their presence was a significant source of motivation. He expressed his appreciation to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) for organizing the golf event and facilitating interactions with tourism stakeholders in Kashmir.
“It is incredibly reassuring to have you all here. Your presence significantly supports our efforts to revive tourism after it faced setbacks,” he remarked.
Addressing recent difficulties, the Chief Minister recognized the concerns tourists might have experienced following the Baisaran tragedy.
“I comprehend why potential visitors might hesitate. The visuals from Pahalgam have understandably impacted the mindset of those who would usually consider visiting,” he stated.
“This is why your presence here is profoundly important — the message you carry back amplifies our goals in ways that might be beyond our reach.”
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of personal narratives, noting that the impressions shared by visitors are often more impactful than official communications.
“When I speak about Jammu and Kashmir as a travel destination, it will naturally be perceived through a local perspective. However, when you return and share your experiences, the effect is much more substantial,” he remarked.
“I’m not being trivial when I say this; we genuinely hope each of you leaves as ambassadors of Jammu and Kashmir, conveying that despite recent challenges, there is hope for a brighter future.”
On improving golf infrastructure, the Chief Minister reassured attendees that all necessary measures would be taken to provide world-class golfing facilities in both Jammu and the Kashmir Valley.
He referenced a recent tournament in Gulmarg, stating, “For the first time in over a decade, we successfully organized a locally-involved golf tournament using nine holes. By August or September, we anticipate having all 18 holes operational. Work on the greens is currently in progress.”
He added, “In the same vein, we will continue to elevate the quality of golf courses in Srinagar and Jammu. You can trust that each time you come back, your experience will be better.”
