Ongoing Demonstrations in Tripura Against Violence Towards Hindus in Bangladesh

Agartala, Dec 2 (NationPress) Protests against violence towards the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh continued in Tripura as hundreds of activists demonstrated near the office of the Assistant High Commissioner (AHC) of the neighboring nation on Monday.

The members of the 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti' also presented a memorandum to the AHC, calling on the caretaker government to halt the violence against the Hindu community and to safeguard their lives and properties.

Sankar Roy, a leader of the 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti', stated that the attacks on the lives and properties of Hindus in Bangladesh have become a regular occurrence, while security forces remain passive observers.

“During the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war, thousands of Hindus fought valiantly and sacrificed their lives, and after the nation achieved sovereignty, the Hindu community significantly contributed to its progress,” Roy informed the media.

The 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti' in its memorandum also called for intervention from the International Human Rights Commission, the United Nations, and other nations to address the situation in Bangladesh and prevent violence against Hindus.

Previously, various organizations, including Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, and former minister and senior Congress leader Birajit Sinha, have urged the Bangladesh government to cease atrocities against Hindu minorities.

In related developments, one of the largest private healthcare facilities in Agartala has decided to suspend services for Bangladeshi patients after protests from local activists regarding violence against minorities in Bangladesh and reported disrespect towards India’s national flag.

In response to the protests, the Chief Operating Officer of the private hospital announced the closure of the hospital’s Bangladesh desk.

Following a similar announcement from a private hospital in Kolkata to withhold medical care from patients from Bangladesh due to reported violence against minorities and disrespect towards the Indian flag, a multi-specialty private hospital in Agartala has also made the same decision.

An executive from the Agartala hospital stated on Sunday that they prioritize the dignity and respect of India and cannot overlook the inhumane treatment of minorities in Bangladesh.

The decision by the Agartala hospital mirrors the action taken by a private hospital in Kolkata, which recently declared it would stop providing medical treatment to Bangladeshi patients over the same issues.
