Hyderabad, April 13 (NationPress) The President of AIMIM and MP for Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, on Sunday called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

During a press conference, he emphasized that the Act is unconstitutional, labeling it a ‘black law’ created by the BJP with the backing of NDA allies.

"We urge the Prime Minister to reconsider this Act. You are enacting a law that contradicts the Constitution of India, imposing your ideology on the nation. Your ideology should align with Indian nationalism and the Constitution,” he stated.

Owaisi questioned, “How can provisions that benefit Hindu and Sikh communities be seen as detrimental to Muslims?” while highlighting certain ‘discriminatory’ aspects of the Act.

The MP pointed out that the Waqf Amendment Act indicates that the BJP views Muslims with suspicion. “In the endowment boards for Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs, only individuals of those faiths can be board members. The Limitation Act does not apply to their endowment boards; they can own properties through usage, and others can donate to these boards. This amendment has stripped the Muslim religious board of these rights,” he noted.

The AIMIM president asserted that the Waqf Act violates Articles 14, 15, 25, 26, and 29 of the Constitution of India.

He remarked that the Act was not intended to protect Waqf properties, eliminate encroachments, or boost Waqf revenue.

In response to the violence in Murshidabad, West Bengal, during protests against the Waqf Act, Owaisi stated that demonstrations should remain peaceful. "We have consistently condemned violence and will continue to do so. Violence of any form is unacceptable," he remarked.

Owaisi announced that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board will hold a public meeting at the AIMIM headquarters, Darussalam, on April 19, opposing the Waqf Amendment Act.

He mentioned that this meeting aims to inform the public about how the Act does not serve the interests of Waqf.

Members of AIMPLB from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with various other Muslim organizations, will be present.

The organizers are also inviting MPs who were part of the Parliament committee on Waqf. “We are also attempting to engage with the Waqf Committee members, and if their schedules allow, they may join this protest,” he added.

The meeting will be overseen by Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, President of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, and will feature speeches from leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hindu, and other organizations.
