Srinagar, May 6 (NationPress) - The President of All India Majlis-e-Ittahadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, expressed his condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack on Tuesday, emphasizing that it has delivered a significant setback to the crucial tourism sector in Kashmir and called for decisive action against those responsible.
Upon his arrival, Owaisi addressed reporters, asserting that the Pahalgam attack has severely impacted the Kashmir tourism industry.
"This was a cowardly act. We have witnessed how terrorists from Pakistan mercilessly murdered 26 tourists. The most distressing aspect was the manner in which they segregated women and children, questioning men about their faith, and those unable to recite the Kalma were targeted. This has adversely impacted Kashmir's tourism, so we demand stringent measures against the perpetrators of this heinous act," he stated.
He further pointed out the economic ramifications of the attack on those reliant on tourism for their livelihoods.
"The Pahalgam attack has profoundly damaged the tourism sector in Kashmir. It represents not only a security concern but also an economic crisis," he remarked.
Owaisi also voiced concerns regarding the recent death of a young individual in Kulgam district, advocating for a transparent and timely investigation.
"A comprehensive inquiry into the Kulgam youth's death is imperative to ensure accountability," he urged.
In response to a query concerning the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), he noted that the central government has paused the treaty's operations. "There are issues involving the neutral expert and the arbitration court; we will have to wait to see the outcome," he mentioned.
Owaisi made a brief visit to Kashmir in April for a wedding in Srinagar, where he was accompanied by senior AIMIM leader and former MP, Imtiaz Jaleel. The Valley’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, officiated the Nikkah at a modest gathering in Nigeen, Srinagar.
Though the occasion was private, the photos shared by the Mirwaiz on social media received considerable attention.
Images depicted Owaisi in attendance, with the Mirwaiz stating, "A tranquil moment of tradition in Srinagar @MirwaizKashmir solemnized a Nikah in Srinagar today with MP & @aimim_national chief @asadowaisi present during his private visit to the Valley."
