New Delhi, June 20 (NationPress) An alarming false alarm regarding a snake sighting in a Delhi Metro coach triggered chaos as frightened passengers in the ladies-only compartment scrambled for safety, with many climbing onto seats. Following an inspection, officials revealed that the commotion stemmed from a baby lizard, not a snake.
A video capturing the frantic moments in a Blue Line train coach circulated widely on social media, showing passengers screaming in terror before evacuation.
The footage also depicts one individual pressing the emergency stop button, which halted the train and allowed everyone to exit at the Akshardham Metro station.
The uproar ensued after a commuter raised the alarm, insisting she had seen a ‘snake’s tail,’ according to an official.
While none of the passengers could confirm the presence of a ‘reptile,’ numerous women were understandably alarmed and took drastic measures – such as climbing onto the steel seats – to distance themselves from the alleged ‘snake’.
Anuj Dayal, the head of Delhi Metro’s communications department, stated, “A widely circulated video shows that although the snake is not visible, claims of a 'snake' sighting in a ladies-only coach have been made. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) acted promptly upon the passenger alert on Thursday evening.”
“The train was evacuated at Akshardham Metro station and subsequently sent to the depot for a thorough inspection. Despite a detailed examination of the train and coach, no snake was discovered. However, a baby lizard was found during the inspection,” he added.
Dayal reassured passengers about the DMRC’s dedication to safety, emphasizing that swift action was taken to resolve the passengers’ concerns in this instance.
“We encourage passengers to stay alert and report any such issues to our staff for immediate response,” he said.
