Patna, Aug 1 (NationPress) Resident doctors at Patna AIIMS have initiated an indefinite strike as of Friday, claiming to have faced assault and threats from Chetan Anand, a rebel MLA belonging to the Rashtriya Janata Dal from Sheohar. This protest has led to a complete halt of hospital services, causing significant inconvenience to patients and their families. Both the OPD and emergency services have been suspended.
The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) stated that the MLA allegedly misbehaved with hospital personnel and even threatened a resident doctor’s life during a disagreement about a patient's treatment early Thursday morning at around 12:15 a.m.
In addition, the doctors accused the MLA of physically assaulting security staff and abusing his political influence to intimidate the medical team.
In response to this incident, resident doctors have completely halted all medical operations and are demanding the immediate filing of an FIR against Chetan Anand.
"We feel unsafe and disrespected. Legal measures are essential to ensure accountability," remarked a spokesperson from the RDA at Patna AIIMS.
In retaliation, MLA Chetan Anand lodged a counter-complaint at the Phulwari Sharif police station, alleging that AIIMS staff had misbehaved and assaulted him on Thursday.
Anand contended that he visited the hospital to assist with a patient but was physically mishandled by the hospital staff.
As both parties maintain their narratives, the situation has escalated into a serious standoff.
Meanwhile, thousands of patients are suffering as emergency and outpatient services remain suspended.
Medical staff and doctors have indicated they will not return to work until strict legal action is taken against the MLA.
"This is not merely about one individual doctor; it’s about upholding the dignity and safety of all medical professionals," commented a senior resident doctor.
As of now, there has been no formal statement from the hospital administration or the state government.
The SHO of Phulwari Sharif Police Station confirmed that complaints have been filed from both sides and that the matter is currently under investigation.
However, reports suggest that senior officials from Patna Police and the Health Department are engaging with both parties to alleviate the situation.
