Thane, April 30 (NationPress) NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar voiced his support on Wednesday for the Congress's call for a special parliamentary session in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
"Our allies are advocating for a dedicated session. This meeting is crucial to convey a unified message to the world that following this terror incident, all of India—its political factions and society—stands together," Pawar stated while speaking to reporters in Thane after the public inauguration of the newly built goddess Tulajabhavani temple by NCP-SP MLA Jitendra Awhad.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, has previously sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a special parliamentary session.
When questioned about the terrorists' inquiries into the victims' religions, Pawar emphasized that the attack on Pahalgam is an affront to the nation.
"Those whose families sacrificed their lives in this attack have borne the costs for this nation. Thus, we should refrain from discussing religion, caste, and language. If any forces are targeting Indians today, we must unite as fellow countrymen without any expectations. We fully support the actions taken by the Prime Minister and his associates in this matter," he remarked.
Pawar had previously warned the Centre about possible retaliatory measures against Pakistan, stressing that any decisions should be made with caution, as Islamabad is unlikely to remain passive.
"We may make such decisions today, but tomorrow Pakistan will retaliate. I doubt Pakistan will stay silent," he cautioned.
Subsequently, NCP-SP state chief Jayant Patil asserted that the nation anticipates decisive action from the Central government.
"For years, there has been a significant demand from the Indian populace to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Strong action is essential at this moment, and we, as the opposition, endorse any measures taken against Pakistan," Patil stated.
