"An ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh will be distributed from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased. Additionally, those injured will receive Rs. 50,000," the statement elaborated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, expressed his sorrow over the incident and reassured that all required support would be extended to those impacted.
In a post on X, Choudhary conveyed, "The heartbreaking stampede at Mata Sheetla Temple in Nalanda has left us in mourning. I extend my sympathies to the families of the deceased and the injured victims of this tragic event."
"The government is committed to providing all possible aid and relief to the affected families. Measures are in place for the proper medical care of the injured," he added.
"May the departed souls rest in peace, and may the grieving families find strength during this difficult time. I also pray for the quick recovery of those who are injured," the Deputy Chief Minister concluded.
The incident transpired at the Mata Sheetla Temple in the Deepnagar police station jurisdiction.
Upon learning of the event, police officials and local residents rushed to the scene to launch relief and rescue operations. Images from the site depicted many devotees gathered in the temple area.
Rescue teams arrived promptly and are currently conducting relief efforts. The injured individuals are being transported to the nearest medical facility for treatment.
Authorities are present on-site and are investigating the cause of the stampede.
