Onboard INS Vikrant in Goa, Oct 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Diwali on Monday aboard the indigenously manufactured aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, engaging with Indian Navy personnel and officers.
During his address, the Prime Minister praised the outstanding contributions of the Army, Navy, and Air Force during Operation Sindoor, honoring the bravery and cooperation displayed by all three branches.
Referring to INS Vikrant as a “symbol of self-reliant India and 'Made-in-India' strength,” he stated, “The indigenous INS Vikrant, navigating through the seas, showcases India’s escalating military prowess. Just a few months back, the very mention of Vikrant caused sleepless nights for the entire Pakistan.”
He remarked, “The mere name of INS Vikrant can undermine the courage of the adversary.”
Emphasizing the synchronized efforts of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor, PM Modi asserted, “The intimidation instilled by the Indian Navy, the expertise of the Indian Air Force, the valor of the Indian Army, and their flawless coordination forced Pakistan to capitulate swiftly.”
Stressing the significance of self-sufficiency in defense, he declared, “When conflict is imminent and the enemy is at the gates, the ability to fight independently provides a significant edge. Self-reliance is crucial for fortifying our armed forces. As more elements of our defense sector become indigenous, our strength multiplies.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that India’s defense production has tripled over the last 11 years, achieving a record of Rs 1.5 lakh crore last year.
“Since 2014, the Navy has acquired more than 40 indigenous warships and submarines from Indian shipyards. Currently, a new warship or submarine joins the Indian Navy every 40 days on average,” he noted.
Regarding India’s missile capabilities, PM Modi stated, “Our missiles such as BrahMos and Akash showcased their effectiveness during Operation Sindoor. The name BrahMos alone is sufficient to induce anxiety in adversaries. Numerous nations are now keen on acquiring these missiles. India is progressively enhancing its capacity to export weapons and equipment across all three services. Our objective is to emerge as one of the leading defense exporters globally.”
Emotionally reflecting on celebrating Diwali with the Navy personnel, the Prime Minister expressed, “Everyone wishes to enjoy Diwali with their family. I, too, am with my family today -- you are my family. Hence, this Diwali holds special significance for me.”
Recalling the commissioning of INS Vikrant, he remarked, “When this magnificent carrier was presented to the nation, I stated that Vikrant is unique, vast, and magnificent. It is not merely a warship but a living testament to the talent, hard work, and determination of 21st-century India.”
He also mentioned that with the commissioning of INS Vikrant, the Navy adopted a new flag inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, discarding a significant symbol of colonial legacy.
Expressing his admiration for the naval personnel, PM Modi said, “These large vessels, supersonic aircraft, and submarines all hold significance, but it is your spirit that breathes life into them. This ship may be constructed of iron, but once you step aboard, it transforms into a living, breathing force.”
He concluded, “From this courageous deck of INS Vikrant, I extend my warm Diwali wishes to millions of my fellow countrymen.”
