Varanasi, April 11 (NationPress) Upon his arrival in the city for the 50th time to his Parliamentary constituency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi prioritized a decisive response to the recent gangrape incident that has left the city and the nation in shock. His first directive to senior police officials was a focused crackdown on a sex racket linked to the case.
Immediately after landing, PM Modi engaged in discussions with the Varanasi Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, and District Magistrate about the investigation and developments surrounding the gangrape case. The senior officers provided a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing inquiries and arrests made so far.
PM Modi insisted on the harshest possible measures against the offenders and emphasized the need for effective strategies to avert similar incidents in the future.
During this visit, PM Modi is also set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 44 development projects worth a total of Rs 3,880 crore.
The city garnered national attention following reports that a 19-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by around 23 men over a span of six days. It is reported that the victim was drugged and taken to various hotels where she was assaulted.
To date, the Varanasi Police have apprehended nine suspects, while efforts are ongoing to locate additional perpetrators. According to the victim, she recognized twelve of the accused, while eleven remain unknown.
Law enforcement is interrogating the detained individuals, some of whom have a history of legal issues related to operating a sex racket disguised as a spa center in 2022.
The situation escalated when the victim's father reported her missing after she had not returned home since March 29, leading to the family filing a missing person's report on April 4.
According to ACP, Cantonment Vidush Saxena, the young woman had gone out with acquaintances but failed to come back, prompting the family's alarm.
So far, a total of nine suspects, including Sajid, Suhail Sheikh, Danish Ali, Imran Ahmed, Shabbir Alam (alias Sameer Ahmed), Sohail Khan, Raj Vishwakarma, Ayush Dhoosia, and Anmol Gupta, have been arrested and presented in court before being remanded to custody.
